Designed as an artist's retreat, the stable is an intimate space, ideal as a secondary area for barn users. It is also great for one or two writers, painters or sculptors in need of an inspirational and productive break.
Larger or more active groups will want to use the barn.
Each spring the stable studio will be home to a visiting artist, the winner of that year’s Wooda Arts Award. Original and committed artists in any medium are offered a bursary and six weeks of studio time. Applications close in October each year, please contact us for further details. The 2007 Award has been awarded to site-specific sculptor Claire Morgan.
Guests wishing to use the stable only can rent the holiday cottage at the seasonal rate (£285 - £595 pw) with an additional weekly charge for use of the stable (£90 for one person, £150 for two, £200 for three or four.)
If you prefer, or if the cottage is already occupied, you can stay as house guests in the farmhouse for £350 per person including all meals and full use of the stable.
For those who want to use the stable without staying here there is a sessional rate of £50 per day.
The stable is a timber-framed, first floor studio room, glazed on three sides to give great natural light. It is raised and cantilevered on wooden legs and is stunningly situated – there is a feeling of suspension out over the steep, wooded valley. A sloping turf roof blends the building into the hillside above and makes you feel very much part of the landscape. Doors from the studio lead out onto a large decked area overlooking the pond. Inside the studio there is electricity, underfloor heating and wireless broadband access; the water supply is outside. Measuring 5m x 3.5m (16ft x 11ft) it is suitable for individual or small group work.
